Show Vs. Tell 2

Tell: It was really hard.

Show: Perspiration starts pouring down. I glance up at the clock. The hands continue in their tick tock motions, slowly counting down the seconds of my time. I stare at my paper with wide eyes and I start to think of how I got into this situation. Time is passing, the teacher starts pacing. My heart beat gets louder and quicker. My hands are full of moisture that I can barely grip my pencil. It slips out of my hand and onto the floor. The sound it makes keeps rhythm with the clock. I bend down to pick it up while at the same time a bell rings. I quickly but silently pack my things, give the teacher my test and dash out the door. It's over.

Show Vs. Tell

Tell: She was always there for me.

Show: I watched her look down. A single tear slipped out of the corner of her eye. She opened her mouth, no sound came out. She gripped the wall, closing her eyes tight with grief. She slowly slid down against the wall, arms in her knees, fists in her eyes. She whispers one word - "no". She said it in a pleading tone. I sat next to her and without a word I held her close. My heart hardly held its beat. The room was silent. It was time to go.
